Fact #1:
The name “Alpharetta” means “First Town”, Derived from two Greek words: “Alpha” meaning first and “Retta” meaning town.
Fact # 2:
Original town charter imposed a tax limit of $25/year. On December 11th, 1858, the original town charter was created. The charter allowed the government to pass a tax on every business, however, the tax could no exceed $25.00 per year.
Fact # 3:
Alpharetta wasn’t always part of Fulton County – Originally, Alpharetta was the first chartered in Milton County. However, during the Great Depression Milton County was nearly bankrupt. The county agreed to merge with the flourishing area to the north – Fulton County. Alpharetta remains a part of Fulton County to this day.
